Digitising data feeds of Belgium ports

Belgium’s major ports faced inefficiencies due to outdated and fragmented Port Community Systems, which made data integration and consolidation difficult. The goal was to centralize and streamline data into a unified digital platform to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

This centralised system captures data of all the ports, Antwerp, Zeebrugge and the North Sea Port, in one central system. Data is easily communicated through standardized APIs, user-friendly web interfaces and custom-made mobile applications. One clear-cut source of information, capable of making exact predictions. Whereas users in the past had to make their own estimations based on how they were able to read and interpret the split data of the three different systems as a whole.

Challenge

The major ports in Belgium were operating with outdated, complex, and fragmented Port Community Systems, which led to inefficiencies and difficulties in data integration. Each port had its own system and structure for communicating data, which made it challenging to consolidate information and make accurate predictions. Additionally, integrating data from nine external reference systems and various channels such as APIs, FTP, CSV, and email further complicated the process. The primary goal was to centralize this data into a single, streamlined digital platform to improve operational efficiency and data accuracy.

Each port operated with its own system, complicating data consolidation and prediction accuracy. The goal was to centralize this data into a unified digital platform to enhance operational efficiency. Numble transformed these complex systems into a streamlined digital platform by standardizing data formats and integrating information from various sources. We developed a central database to consolidate data from all Belgian ports, enabling efficient processing and access. Our solutions included Portcall Mobile, which provides real-time updates on vessel movements, Qronoport for optimizing dock planning, and Portdepartures for tracking vessel travel plans and booking shipping appointments. These innovations significantly improved operational efficiency and data accuracy.

Results

The successful implementation of the centralized digital platform streamlined operations across the ports, improved data accuracy, and enhanced the overall efficiency of vessel management. The new digital tools facilitated better planning and decision-making, providing clear and actionable insights into port activities.

By having a central database with the data of all the Belgium ports it made it possible for us to develop new solutions for the European market that digitised vessel related operations. Some of these solutions are Portcall Mobile, Qronoport, Vessel Tracking and more.
